# High Five Vocabulary Practice

Language comprehension

---

## Increase Vocabulary

This exercise will help the students develop and consolidate their Vocabulary through the active use of new words and concepts.

Feel free to use words and concepts that you have previously worked with, for example, in "Teacher's Reading Aloud", which you can find in other exercises where you have picked out new words and concepts.

**Here's what you can do:**

Distribute a card with a word or concept to each student. Explain that they are to walk around the classroom with their hand raised. When a student meets another with their hand raised, they do a " high five ".

Student 1 says a given word or concept, and student 2 explains what it means. Student 2 says a given word or concept, and Student 1 explains what it means.

If both students can explain the words, they exchange cards and continue moving forward with their hand up to face the next student.

If a student cannot explain a given word, they can look at the explanation so they can remember it next time. That Student does not change cards but continues with the same card and their hand up.

The teacher decides when the exercise should end.

Repetition of the words is crucial to strengthen understanding. You can also encourage the students to use the new words in different contexts, both orally and in writing.

Encourage the students to find synonyms for the new words to further consolidate them in their vocabulary.
